Town of Amherst Halloween Spooktacular

The annual family-friendly Halloween Spooktacular will take place this Sunday, Oct. 26, from 12 to 3:30 p.m. in Downtown Amherst. Presented by the Town of Amherst Recreation with the Jones Library, the event will feature a costume parade, downtown trick-or-treating at local businesses, and activities, like a haunted house and kids’ carnival games hosted at the Bangs Community Center.

60th Anniversary of Frost Library

This Friday, Oct. 24, is the sixty-year anniversary of Frost Library’s dedication. Library staff will be hosting a celebration from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Friendly Reading Room to honor sixty years of the library as an intellectual hub for the college. There will be activities, and snacks will be provided. Dressing up in ‘60s attire is encouraged but not required.

Nationalisms and Its Exclusions Faculty Lecture

Next Tuesday, Oct. 28, Professor of Spanish and English Sony Coráñez Bolton will host a talk titled “Unfit for the Nation: Disability and the Hispanic Imagination in the Philippines,” from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Lyceum. The talk will explore how disability has shaped race and nationalism in the Philippines, specifically how Asian mestizo writers in the 19th and 20th centuries categorized Indigenous Filipinos as weak or in need of rehabilitation.
