Greek Goddesses as Mothers or Would-Be Mothers

Gregory Nagy, professor of classical Greek literature and professor of comparative literature at Harvard University, will deliver a talk on the element of “mothering” in Greek mythology on Thursday, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Cole Assembly Room. Nagy’s published work focuses on analyzing Homer and his portrayal of ancient Greek heroes. His talk will feature stories such as the chimera “mothered” by the goddess Hera, and Erichthonius — the legendary ruler of Athens — “mothered” by Athena.
