AAS Candidate Statements for Vacant Class of 2027 Seat and Transfer Senators
Class of 2027 candidates and Transfer Student candidates for the Association of Amherst Students’ senate elections on Friday, Oct. 24 and Saturday, Oct. 25, have submitted their statements. Speech Night will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 8 p.m. in Johnson Chapel.
The students below have announced their candidacies for these elections. All candidates are listed by position, then alphabetically by last name. If the statements end in ellipses, it is because they have been cut off to fit the 100-word limit.
Class of 2027 (2 candidates, 1 seat):
Dakota Costa ’27:
Hi guys, my name is Dakota! I truly value personal relationships and engaging with people, so my goal as a senator is to serve as a bridge between the community and AAS. My plan is to get far more input from students about what they want. If I were elected, a few of my working ideas would be to expand outdoor seating areas and chairs, install vending machines in all dorm buildings, and reintroduce a school comfort dog. I hope you can join me in creating a more collaborative community on campus and consider voting for me.
Isabella DePreist-Sullivan ’27:
Hi! My name is Isabella DePreist-Sullivan, and I’m running to be your junior class senator. To the Senate, I bring diverse perspectives that reflect many facets of the student body. As a political science and physics major, I understand both the humanities and STEM experience at Amherst. As a member of the crew team, I’m a student-athlete, but also not a member of a varsity sports team. As a Senator, I hope to connect these communities. A vote for me is a vote for more money directed to registered student organizations and new campus-wide events!
Transfer Election: (2 candidates, 1 seat)
Javkhlan “Jay” Batsaikhan ’28:
As an international and transfer student, I believe every member of our community — students, faculty, and staff—brings strengths and contributions that matter. At Bunker Hill Community College, I served as student government president and student trustee, leading with a focus on equity, transparency, and collaboration. My motto, Information = Education, reflects my conviction that timely, clear, two-way communication allows us to identify gaps, propose solutions, and build together. Having also mentored 100+ peers, I am honored to stand for the Transfer Senate position, committed to amplifying transfer voices and advancing unity and shared purpose within the Amherst community.
